BBC report echos recent workshop: how to make green energy affordable

The debate is hotting up in England,  as resistance to wind power is growing, amidst the coalition’s aim “to be the greenest government ever”. At the same time, the percentage of people’s spending on energy is rising. Some one in six are now “energy poor”, spending more than 10% of their budget on energy.

If green energy investment continues, this percentage will likely rise. Yet taxation on non-renewable energy is only mild.

This situation was discussed by groups at the recent workshop on flexible fees in Stockholm. Would it be possible using flexible energy fees with a general tax refund to go green and retain purchasing power?
